NV Energy Receives Top National Awards from COMBINED CYCLE Journal

NV Energy received the first-ever Pacesetter Utility Award and the company's Edward W. Clark Generating Station received the 2009 Pacesetter Plant Award from COMBINED CYCLE Journal.

COMBINED CYCLE Journal is noted as the authoritative information resource for owners and operators of gas-turbine and combined-cycle plants in North America.

CCJ's Editor and Publisher Robert Schwieger said that NV Energy was selected for significant achievements in four areas within a five-year timeline:

  • Building and acquiring a fleet of world-class combined cycles that more than doubled existing capacity to meet demand growth;
  • Satisfying Nevada's demanding Renewable Portfolio Standard;
  • Meeting air-emissions goals that are among the nation's most stringent; and
  • Reducing water consumption to industry minimums.

NV Energy's president and CEO Michael Yackira said, "I am proud of the work and notable recognition of the power generation team. These great achievements could not have been accomplished without their dedication and hard work."

COMBINED CYCLE Journal said that the Clark Generating Station was recognized for a variety of reasons, but notably for recently doubling its energy output capabilities and cutting the plant’s emissions in half. The 1102 megawatt plant also now has the ability to help NV Energy better respond to increasing amounts of renewable energy used to serve customer energy requirements.
