Power Lines Buried Through Cost-Sharing Initiative The City of Spruce Grove and FortisAlberta have partnered to share the cost of burying power lines along a section of Highway 16A.
The section of overhead power lines from Dog Creek to Calahoo Road was installed in the 1970s and was due to be upgraded to meet the increased demand for electricity. Before replacing the overhead power line through its regular maintenance program, FortisAlberta approached the City of Spruce Grove about investing the additional funds to install the lines underground instead. The partnership allowed the City to change to underground power lines for the area for just 40 per cent of the overall cost. The project was completed in November. The City has partnered with the electrical distribution company on similar projects in the past, including along Campsite Road and the west portion of Highway 16A. The same process is being used along Century Road as a part of the widening process. |
