Xcel Energy Foundation Provides $330,000 in Educational, Environmental Grants

The Xcel Energy Foundation recently awarded 38 grants totaling $331,500 to a variety of educational and environmental groups throughout Colorado.

In the area of education, Xcel Energy supports math, science and economic education for students from kindergarten through high school. Funds will be used to improve student performance and provide practical business/technical skills to ensure students can compete effectively in the job market.

Awards also were made to organizations that provide environmental education, habitat restoration and preservation.

“As an environmental leader, Xcel Energy is investing in the communities we serve to strengthen education in the sciences and to help improve the environment,” said Monique Lovato, Xcel Energy director of corporate philanthropy. “In addition to monetary support of our non-profit partners, our employees also contribute to these causes through their time, tutoring for Junior Achievement and volunteering to plant trees, build trails and deliver energy efficiency measures to our customers as part of our Earth Day efforts.”

Xcel Energy, its employees and retirees provide support across eight states with a total of $15 million in community investment through the Xcel Energy Foundation, United Way, matching gifts and volunteerism.

The Denver Business Journal’s 2008 Giving Guide ranked Xcel Energy as the No. 1 corporate philanthropist of cash contributions given to Colorado-based charities and listed Xcel Energy No. 2 on its list of top Corporate Foundations for 2008.
