New Children’s Alternative Energy Play to Premiere at Children’s Festival The environment will take center stage in “Power Up! The Alternative Energy Show,” sponsored by ENMAX Energy Corporation, at this year’s Northern Alberta Children’s Festival.
Written and performed by Maureen Rooney and Paul Punyi of Rooney and Punyi Educational Theatre Productions, the play will engage kids in renewable ways of generating power.
Children will be asked to participate by helping to cure an ailing patient, Mother Earth, of her pollution troubles. They discover the culprit that is causing the problems is Mr. Hugh Man and set about administering a cure.
“We want to teach children about renewable energy in creative and fun ways,” explains Karla Wingate, manager, Sponsorship & Community Investment at ENMAX Energy. “The children will end up being the stars of the show as they play the part of Hugh Man, the sun, the wind and the river.”
The play wraps up with the children singing the “Power Up” song, a ‘50s style rock number. Afterwards, the kids can create environmental postcards to send to family and friends, sharing what they have learned and encouraging them to become more environmentally conscious. |
