TEP to Help Local Governments Secure Federal Stimulus Funds for Efficiency & Conservation

Tucson Electric Power hosted a workshop to help Arizona cities and counties prepare successful applications for newly available federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants.

The grants, made available through economic stimulus legislation approved earlier this year, are intended to fund projects that pare back fossil fuel emissions, reduce overall energy use or improve energy efficiency while driving economic growth.

"We’d like to help our local governments navigate the application process and secure funding for projects that will produce long-term, sustainable benefits for our community," said Paul Bonavia, Chairman, President and CEO of TEP and its parent company, UniSource Energy Corporation.

The agenda included a detailed overview of the grant goals, important steps in the application process and a review of project milestones. Participants learned how to develop an effective energy-saving strategy, how to benchmark the energy performance of existing facilities and how to leverage grant funding to secure additional resources for their projects.
