EPA Recognizes PG&E with 2010 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) a 2010 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
PG&E, an ENERGY STAR partner for 15 years, was honored for its groundbreaking energy efficiency programs, including:
"We have some of the most environmentally conscious customers, and PG&E is committed to increasing energy efficiency through new incentive programs, emerging technologies and support for stronger energy codes and standards," said Steven L. Kline, vice president of corporate environmental and federal affairs, and chief sustainability officer of PG&E. "Our longtime ENERGY STAR partnership is an important element of our efforts to address climate change."
Since 1976, PG&E’s energy efficiency programs have helped customers save enough annual electricity to power more than 23.5 million homes and enough annual natural gas to heat 25 million homes. In addition, PG&E’s energy efficiency programs have helped customers save more than $24 billion in energy costs and avoid the emission of 155 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The 2010 Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, employing innovative approaches, and showing others what can be achieved through energy efficiency.
These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program including energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors. Award winners are selected from more than 17,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. "EPA is recognizing PG&E with our highest ENERGY STAR award--the 2010 Sustained Excellence Award," said Gina McCarthy, EPA assistant administrator for air and radiation. "PG&E’s continued leadership and commitment to energy efficiency is a testament to what we can accomplish to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our global environment." |
