Gazprom Bullish on LNG versus Shale Gas in U.S. Russian LNG producer Gazprom expects that LNG prices will be competitive with shale gas prices in the U.S. and is not revising its target of gaining 10 percent of U.S. gas market share by 2020.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer Alexander Medvedev told Bloomberg that the expense and potential environmental concerns associated with shale gas production may keep prices for domestically produced gas in line with those for imported LNG and that “the market will say who will be in the market and with what.”
Gazprom recently delayed and may cancel a proposed LNG plant in the Arctic Shtokman field that would have shipped primarily to North America. However, the company plans to move ahead with development of the Arctic’s Yamal Peninsula and is seeking various foreign partners for that endeavor. Gazprom currently has no plans to acquire U.S. shale gas assets, according to Medvedev. |
