Senate Bill Lays Out State Role in LNG Project Approval Process California’s Senate recently approved a bill that would grant the state more of a role in monitoring and evaluating applications to construct LNG terminals.
Since the slump in gas prices has resulted in reduced interest from terminal developers, the bill’s sponsors are hoping lawmakers can implement guidelines for state oversight free from pressure related to pending projects.
The bill passed in the Senate 25-9. Under the guidelines it lays out, the California Energy Commission would be required to maintain a database of all LNG proposals on the West Coast. Applicants would be required to assess projects’ greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, applicants would have to affirm that they had consulted with the Department of Defense regarding potential projects. |
