Seattle City Light Honored for Communications Excellence
Seattle City Light has been awarded seven national and international awards for its work on utility operations, environmental efforts, and educating school children about climate change.

“Customer service begins with communication,” Superintendent Jorge Carrasco said. “We are committed to being a partner with our customers to reduce climate change by informing them and engaging them in actions that reduce their carbon footprint.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized for excellence in communications, particularly on our initiatives around energy conservation, environmental stewardship, and youth education,” Carrasco said. “We also have a responsibility to provide help to our most vulnerable customers by helping them in times of emergency financial need. I am gratified to see that we have been recognized for our efforts.”

The Communications & Public Affairs division at City Light won a platinum Ava Award for developing an “Evening Magazine” broadcast about the Project Share low income assistance program and a gold award for its production of a video for “Shrinking Bigfoot,” a theatrical presentation that teaches school children how they can reduce their impact on climate change. The international Ava Awards recognize outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, direction, shooting and editing of audio-visual materials and programs.

City Light also won five MarCom awards from the Association of Marketing & Communications Professionals. The utility won platinum awards for its 2008 Annual Report and its 2008 Environmental Report. It won gold awards for the utility’s Light Reading customer newsletter, the Shrinking Bigfoot video, and a T-shirt designed for volunteers at the annual Skagit River Cleanup.
