Automakers Say Federal Fuel Standard Critical to Long-Range Planning Trade group The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which includes Detroit automakers and Toyota, filed arguments last month with the U.S. Court of Appeals supporting federal fuel economy rules.
The AAM said that a patchwork of state standards would be far more difficult for it to meet; saying auto manufacturers need certainty “for long-term product planning.”
The filings were in response to Republican-led challenges to the EPA’s use of the Clean Air Act to control CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions both through fuel economy standards and regulation of stationary sources. |
