Public Consultation on the Eastern Alberta HVDC Transmission Project Begins After several months of data gathering and evaluating potential routes across a broad study area, ATCO Electric is going public with its preliminary route options for the high profile 500 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line project.
Detailed information packages have been mailed to affected landowners and other interested parties and open houses were scheduled from mid-June to mid-July. Face-to-face meetings with landowners on or near the preliminary route options began in the latter part of June. The feedback received at this stage is essential in helping the utility choose a preferred route and possibly an alternative.
A second round of consultation will take place this fall with landowners on or near the preferred route option(s). Outcomes will be included in the facility application that is expected to be submitted to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) by the end of this year. Subject to approval by the AUC, construction is planned to begin in 2012 and the line is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2013.
To ensure project information is readily available and timely updates are provided to interested parties, ATCO Electric has launched a web site for the Eastern Alberta HVDC Transmission Project which can be accessed from the main ATCO Electric web page or at http://hvdc.atcoelectric.com . This web site provides information specific to the project, including maps, fact sheets and FAQs. Also provided is an interactive map that allows visitors to identify exactly where their property is in proximity to the preliminary route options. A few simple clicks provide distance from the line and the ability to zoom in for an aerial view of the selected site. |
