Snohomish PUD General Manager Steve Klein Appointed to State Energy Committee

Snohomish County Public Utility District General Manager Steve Klein has been appointed to the Washington State Energy Strategy Advisory Committee. Klein has more than 30 years of experience in the electric utility industry. He is a recognized leader in the research and development of green energy resources and smart grid technology in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to joining the PUD in 2006, he worked for Tacoma Power as its superintendent and in other management positions.

“I look forward to working with other regional leaders to identify new strategies to advance our state’s energy policies,” said PUD General Manager Steve Klein. “In Snohomish County, we’ve pushed ourselves to constantly be innovative, prudent with finances and sensitive to our environment.”

The Energy Strategy Advisory Committee is charged with updating the State Energy Strategy (SES). The SES goals include maintaining competitive energy prices, fostering a clean energy economy and jobs, and meeting obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The SES will help policy makers chart Washington’s energy future.

The Advisory Committee members are representative of a diverse range of energy interests and stakeholders. The committee will convene for approximately 18 months, beginning with meetings this month. A technical expert panel also will provide comprehensive technical and economic analysis to support the process.
