Western Gas Market Review - June 2010
Western Natural Gas Prices Canadian Gas at Kingsgate, ID The May 2010 average daily price of Canadian gas at Kingsgate, ID was $3.84/mmBtu. This was 19 percent higher than the $3.22/mmBtu May 2009 average and 63 percent lower than the $10.28/mmBtu May 2008 average.
Rocky Mountain Gas at Opal, WY The May 2010 average daily price of Rocky Mountain gas at Opal, WY was $3.75/mmBtu. This was 31 percent higher than the $2.86/mmBtu May 2009 average and 56 percent lower than the $8.58/mmBtu May 2008 average.
Southwestern Gas at the Southern California Border The May 2010 average daily price of Southwestern gas at the Southern California Border was $3.97/mmBtu. This was 15 percent higher than the $3.45/mmBtu May 2009 average and 60 percent lower than the $9.93/mmBtu May 2008 average. Intercontinental Exchange
Working Gas in Western Underground Storage Net gas injections for May 2010 totaled 64 Bcf, increasing Western underground storage levels to 394 Bcf. This volume is 4.8 percent higher than the May 2009 storage level of 376 Bcf and 29 percent above the five year average May storage level of 306 Bcf. U.S. Energy Information Administration
Western Natural Gas Production Natural gas production in the Western U.S. for the 12 months ending in May 2010 averaged 12.6 Bcf/day. This was 1.6 percent lower than production for the comparable 2009 period and 8.2 percent higher than production for the comparable 2008 period. Bentek Energy, LLC
Western Rig Count The Western states rotary rig count for the week ending May 28, 2010 was 228, an increase of 77 rigs or 51 percent from the year-ago count. It is a decrease of 23 percent from the five year average May rig count of 294. Baker Hughes
Western Imports Imports of Canadian natural gas into the Western U.S. for the 12 months ending in May 2010 averaged 2.7 Bcf/day. This was 10.5 percent higher than imports for the comparable 2009 period and 2.1 percent lower than imports for the comparable 2008 period. Bentek Energy, LLC
