January 2010 LNG Imports Twice January 2009 Levels

Cold weather in January helped push U.S. gas prices up enough to attract incremental cargoes of LNG, reported the Energy Information Administration in its February short-term energy outlook.

The EIA has projected that 2010 overall will see higher import levels than 2009 due to higher production volumes worldwide.

In January, imports hit 60 billion cubic feet, with deliveries to Northeast terminals increasing. Incremental volumes also increased at terminals on the East and Gulf coasts.
