ConocoPhillips, Marathon Oil to Seek LNG Export License Renewal ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil said in April that they will apply for a renewal for their license to export Cook Inlet gas from the Nikiski LNG plant, reported the Anchorage Daily News.
The decision was welcomed by Alaska officials and Anchorage utilities, which have deemed the LNG plant critical to the local economy as well as to Southcentral Alaska utilities.
The facility, which has been operating since the late 1960s, helps ensure gas supply to the region during wintertime cold snaps. In the summer excess supply is exported because otherwise there would not be adequate demand to keep the wells producing. The proposed renewal would extend the time the companies have to export a total of 99 billion cubic feet of natural gas from March 2011 to March 2013. To date, about one-quarter of that total has been shipped. |
