School District Receives $69,000 Rebate for Energy Efficiency from IID The Desert Sands Unified School District was presented a rebate check for $69,730 from Imperial Irrigation District (IID) in April for improving energy efficiency at Desert Ridge Academy and Shadow Hills High School.
“As the local energy provider, this is a trend we want to encourage with environmentally focused school districts, such as Desert Sands, that work to achieve energy efficiency on their campuses,” said Patrick Swarthout, government affairs officer for IID. “The energy, cost savings and environmental benefits realized from their stewardship will benefit the students of Desert Sands and the community for years to come.”
IID’s rebate incentive helped pay for the purchase and installation of 92 air conditioners. The improved energy efficiency of the central air conditioning units is expected to reduce energy use, costs and carbon emissions. IID’s Energy Rewards Rebate Program provides financial incentives of up to 50 percent of the purchase and installation of ENERGY STAR® qualified air conditioners and other equipment. These units have a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) than standard models, which makes them about 14 percent more efficient. School district officials continue to explore opportunities to improve energy efficiency at additional campuses in partnership with IID. |
