Scott Morris is president and chief operating officer of Avista Corp. Morris was elected to these posts by Avista's board of directors in May 2006. He also serves as president of Avista Utilities, the company's regulated operating division, a position he has held since August 2000. Avista Utilities serves nearly 340,000 electric customers in eastern Washington and northern Idaho, and provides natural gas service to about 300,000 customers in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and parts of Oregon. Morris is an experienced utility executive who has served in a variety of leadership positions in his 25 years with the company. Morris began his career with Avista in 1981 in the company's utility marketing division. In 1982, he was promoted to customer service supervisor. In 1984, he was promoted to construction/customer service superintendent, Construction Customer Service. In 1988 he was promoted to customer service manager, and in 1991 he was promoted to general manager for Avista's Oregon and California utility business, serving in that Volume 1, Issue 1, February 2007 Page 11 position until his promotion to president of Avista Utilities in 2000. Additionally, Morris was elected as a corporate vice president in November 2000, and in February 2002 he was elected as a senior vice president for Avista Corp. Morris is a graduate of Gonzaga University and received his master's degree from Gonzaga in organizational leadership. He also attended the Stanford Business School Financial Management Program and the Kidder Peabody School of Financial Management.Morris is an active and involved member of the community. He is a deputy director for the Washington Roundtable and a board member for Providence Health Care and the Spokane Area EDC. Morris is on the board of trustees for Gonzaga University, serves on the leadership council of the American Gas Association and is a board member and treasurer of the Western Energy Institute. Morris completed a one-year term as board chairman of the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2004. He also chaired the Washington Economic Development Commission for four years, a position he was appointed to by former Gov. Gary Locke in 2002.
