A Find + Fix Super Emitters for Greater Methane Emissions Reductions

This session presents results from an asset management solution that combines data analytics with a vehicle-based methane emissions data collection platform. This has been operationalized by PG&E in their efforts to comply with the performance metrics on methane emissions reductions as set forth in California’s recent emissions reduction legislation. The use of this advanced emissions detection and quantification technology annually across PG&E’s gas distribution territory has resulted in the rapid identification of “Super Emitter” leaks having especially high leak flow rates. Repairing the very small number of Super Emitters has resulted in a significant amount of emissions reduction in addition to PG&E’s ongoing emissions reduction efforts.
