Gwen Marelli is the Senior Director of Safety Management Systems (SMS) for SoCalGas, a Sempra Energy utility. She leads a team of safety and emergency management professionals and is responsible and accountable for the continued enhancements and communications of a holistic and comprehensive SMS framework at SoCalGas. This includes employee and contractor safety, public safety, infrastructure safety, Emergency Management and Pipeline Safety & Compliance. Most recently, Marelli was the director of Supply Management and Supplier Diversity where she was responsible for overseeing supply management, representing $1.6 Billion in procurement spend with 2,500 suppliers, and a supplier diversity component of over 40%.
Marelli has been with Sempra Utilities for 30 years. She has held a variety of assignments across both Southern California Gas Company and San Diego Gas and Electric Company, including residential, commercial & industrial markets strategy, communications, research & web strategy, field service, customer service and revenue operations and energy markets and capacity products. Prior to joining the Utilities, Gwen worked as a Flight Test Engineer for the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 aircraft program. She began her career as an Operating Plant Services Engineer for Bechtel Power Corporation.
Gwen is a recent former member of the Executive Board of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, Energy Solutions Center and held a 5-year appointment by Governor Brown to the State Board of Guide Dogs for the Blind. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from U.C. San Diego and master’s degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. Marelli is a Certified Energy Engineer and Charted Industrial Gas Consultant.
