Manuel Avendaño

I am currently leading a team of engineering managers and engineers as part of SCE’s Integrated System Planning. Our responsibilities include performing interstate and inter-utility reliability assessments; coordinating WECC and NERC participation and regional planning; supporting the development of national interconnections standards; conducting long-term grid import planning analyses and transmission interconnection assessments. We undertake analytical studies to determine the steps that California must take to meet the 2045 goals to clean our electricity grid and reach carbon neutrality.

Previously, I led engineering teams in the technical evaluation of emerging grid technologies such as microgrids, DERs, and smart inverters, at SCE and ComEd. Before assuming these utility leadership roles, I was a Project Engineer at S&C Electric’s Consulting and Analytical Studies group.

I earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in Mexico and the PhD in Electrical Engineering in United Kingdom.
