Kirsten Petersen

Kirsten Petersen is the Electric Distribution Operations Manager at San Diego Gas and Electric, where she leads the team of operators, trainees, technical support analysts, and supervisors responsible for the safe and reliable operations of SDG&E’s electric distribution system. Kirsten’s role also includes leading the Department Operations Center – Electric (DOC-E), the ICS structure of the operations teams during activations for storms and Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).

Kirsten began her career at SDG&E in 2013 as an intern in Smart Grid. Since then, Kirsten completed the associate rotation program, and her subsequent permanent roles have collectively supported wildfire mitigation, resiliency, and reliability. She was an engineer in System Protection and Control Engineering, Distributed Energy Resources, and later was a team lead for Distribution Strategy in Electric System Hardening.

Kirsten received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.  She is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. Outside of work Kirsten has two rabbits and enjoys skiing and SCUBA diving.
