Matthew Wilson

Matt joined BC Hydro in 2006, bringing with him 9 years of experience from TELUS and the telecom utility sector. At TELUS, Matt developed his leadership skills working with and leading outside plant construction crews. In 2004, Matt took on a front line management role with TELUS, leading a team of construction and customer facing staff in the Sea to Sky corridor. Matt regularly interacted with high profile clients and event organizers at Whistler Blackcomb to provide successful telecom support to multiple world class events including World Cup ski racing and mountain biking.

After joining BC Hydro, Matt played a key role in BC Hydro’s successful construction and operation of the Winter Olympic venue energization program in 2010, in addition to completing a pre-event system maintenance program of previously unprecedented volume. In July 2010, Matt took on a senior leadership role as Area Manager with Northshore/Coastal Distribution Operations. In July 2011, Matt became the Lower Mainland Regional Manager responsible for the Lower Mainland Distribution and Stations portfolio. His passion for team development, coaching, and “acting as an owner” enabled the team, under his leadership, to reduce the number of time loss accidents, increase crew productivity, increase crew engagement, and improve emergency response times and customer service metrics. In December 2015, Matt took on a new challenge as General Manager (now Director) of Construction Services, leading a province-wide multi-discipline team in the delivery of capital construction projects, maintenance, and emergency support.

Matt has supported the WEI Operations conference as either a PDT member, PDT Lead,, Mentor, or Track Lead since 2014.
