Michael Staats

Mike currently serves as the Manager of the Transmission Engineering department, which is part of the Transmission Services organization of the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). The Transmission Engineering department supports the expansion, maintenance, construction, and operation of BPA’s transmission-related facilities, primarily focused on transmission lines, and civil/structural development in substations, fiber optic lines, and wireless program. The Transmission Engineering department has 120 employees. Mike has thirty-two years of experience in a variety of positions at the Bonneville Power Administration. In addition, provides management and technical leadership on transmission line issues such as tower design and inspection (steel and wood pole structures), replacement, grounding, corrosion, airway marking, insulators, and safety concerns. Also, serves as BPA’s point of contact on various industry wide committees, organizations, and work groups. In addition, he has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Washington State University.
