Scott Mercer is BC Hydro’s Specialist Engineer in Power Quality. Apart from his initial four years at BC Hydro working as a designer, the rest of his 19 year career has been focused in power quality. Scott has become largely interested in the use of scripting as a means of automating analysis of the ever increasing amounts of power system data that can be leveraged for proactive identification of voltage and equipment issues. Scott represents Canada on various IEC committees related to power quality, and he believes strongly in the importance of standardization as a means to improve and maintain power system and equipment performance, especially as load technologies are changing rapidly. When not coding, Scott enjoys travel, photography, motorcycling, and exploring the wondrous nature of the West Coast.
