Starting February 8, 2022, members will be required to update their passwords to access the WEI portal.
What is changing?
Password Expiration: Passwords were previously not set to expire. Users were not required to change their passwords. In our efforts to increase security, settings have been updated so that passwords will expire every 180 days.
Password History: Password history was previously not maintained, allowing users to reuse old passwords. The system has been set to remember a user’s 3 most recent passwords. This will force users to create new, unique passwords.
Password Complexity: Passwords were required to be a minimum of 8 characters long and had to contain a combination of alpha and numeric characters. Passwords are still required to be a minimum of 8 characters, however, the complexity has increased. Passwords must now include at least:
- 1 Number
- 1 Uppercase Letter
- 1 Lowercase Letter
- 1 Special Character (examples: ! ” # $ % & ‘ ( ) * + , – . / : ; < = > ? @ [ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~)
Maximum invalid attempts: Previously, there was no limit on invalid login attempts. If a user’s attempt to login had failed, they could continue to attempt. A user can now have a maximum of 3 invalid login attempts before they will be temporarily locked out of their account. They can re-attempt to login after 30 minutes.
If an account is locked, a user will not be able to request a password reset from the login page.
Users should contact member services to have the account unlocked (and/or password reset) if they need access before the 30 minutes has expired.
