Our Utility Fundamentals + Insights courses adopt a fresh and interactive educational platform providing attendees with a deep understanding of how the electric and gas utility industries work, and an improved awareness of their own roles within their organizations. Utility Regulation + Ratemaking courses provide an overview of various regulatory bodies and how they set rates.  

• US Cost-of-Service: This course provides an overview of the role that State Public Utility Commissions have when setting customer rates for investor-owned electric and gas companies. Investor-owned utilities include privately owned entities and those with shares traded on stock markets. This model also generally applies to Cooperatives.
• Publicly-Owned Utilities: This course provides an overview of the budgeting and rate approval process for utilities owned by the public, including municipally owned utilities and public utility districts.
• Utility Regulation + Ratemaking: Alberta Utilities: This course is designed to provide a broad understanding of the Alberta regulatory environment and how the Alberta Utilities Commissions sets customer rates for investor-owned electric and gas companies. Included in the instruction is a discussion and modeling of the cost-of-service revenue requirement (the “going-in rate”) and principals of performance-based ratemaking. The course includes ratemaking principals for transmission and distribution organizations.
• Utility Regulation + Ratemaking: British Columbia Utilities: This course is designed to provide a broad understanding of the British Columbia regulatory environment and how the British Columbia Utilities Commission sets customer rates for provincial and investor-owned electric and gas companies. The course provides cost-of-service modeling used at BC Hydro and FortisBC and an overview of Performance-Based Ratemaking used by FortisBC.
