This is a notice regarding unauthorized solicitations and scams affecting Western Energy Institute members and conference attendees.
Please be advised that WEI has received notifications that conference registrants, vendors, members, and associated staff have been solicited by companies offering to aid in hotel bookings for WEI events. These companies improperly represent their association with WEI and booking through them can result in reservation errors, difficulty altering or canceling a reservation, or paying higher room rates. These scams are becoming more commonplace and are difficult for hotels or WEI to proactively detect.
To avoid scams like these, please be aware of the following:
- WEI does not outsource any travel or hotel bookings
- WEI will never ask another company to reach out to you about your hotel or travel bookings on our behalf
- Attendees should book travel arrangements only through official WEI communications or directly through the reservation links or phone numbers provided on the WEI website for the desired program
WEI takes privacy issues very seriously, and the confidentiality of our contact and registration lists is critically important. Please see WEI’s full privacy policy on our website. WEI does not distribute any list or contact information for solicitation purposes.
If you, or any of your colleagues, receive a third-party solicitation regarding a WEI conference or event, please forward the solicitor’s information to info@westernenergy.org and we will take the necessary action.
