Fernando Pena

Fernando Peña Jr. is a Distribution Engineer for Southern California Edison. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Fresno and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California. Fernando is currently working to provide safe and reliable electric utility service with the coordination and engagement of new technologies and methods for operating the electric grid. Since the start of his career in 2010 he has had a focus in reviewing and determining the impacts of Distributed Energy Resources with the Edison Distribution System. This has allowed him to gain a strong understanding of the need to plan for a stronger and more resilient system to allow for the additional power flow needed to accommodate DER. Additionally, with this gained knowledge, Fernando was able to complete a recent successful role in an 18+ month developmental assignment as an Operations Engineer where he coordinated with System Operators to improve the safe operation of power supply in a highly penetrated Distributed Energy Resource region of Southern California Edison. When not helping to advance the grid of the future, Fernando enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, and volunteering at his local Church. He can be contacted at fernando.pena@sce.com.
