Jason Merkel

Jason Merkel is the General Manager of NorthWestern Energy’s Distribution Operations and Construction. He graduated from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science. His utility career began with the Company in 1992, and he has served in gas production, gas transmission, hydro-generation, and the gas and electric distribution departments of the company. As General Manager of Operations, he manages the operations and construction departments that serve NorthWestern Energy’s 735,000 gas and electric customers. Operation/Construction’s 675 employees oversee the operations, maintenance and construction for 20,300 miles of electric distribution lines, 8,000 miles of electric transmission, and 6,700 miles of gas distribution lines in the very expansive service territories within Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska.
